Judy Hankin
Judy Hankin is a Melbourne born and bred photographer. She first picked up the family's Box Brownie whilst still at school, but it wasn't until she began traveling overseas armed with her own trusty SLR that she realised her passion for and talent in photography. On showing fellow travellers "holiday snaps" she caught the attention of several overseas artists who suggested Judy do some formal training to hone her skills.
Following their advice, Judy attended the Australian College of Photography, Art and Communication (ACPAC) studying a diploma of photography and art, and then completed a one year certificate course in studio photography. The knowledge gained from these educational experiences not only enhanced her innate skills but expanded her creative talent and subject material.
Judy has also studied and worked in the areas of nursing and psychology. Marrying the skills gleaned from those experiences Judy's images blend creative, candid and personal elements to create images that can tweak the imagination and evoke an emotional response from the viewer. Travel both local and abroad, still provides her the greatest inspiration. The richness of cultural and religious diversity intrigues; the beauty and at times surreal elements in natural and manmade landscapes continues to excite.
Judy continues to explore her potential, and whilst preferring the subtleties gained in the film medium, has now also embraced digital technology. Through her images we are invited to gain greater awareness and compassion for humanity and the planet we all share. The images displayed throughout these pages provide a glimpse only of Judy's photographic repertoire. Her library of work includes a vast number of landscapes and portraits from both Australia and abroad, black & white images, and photographs that could be used in an array of commercial contexts.
